The boiler business is not just about fossil fuels. Our team of experienced biomass engineers can carry out installations nationwide, using various fuels and transport systems. We’re experts in delivering complete turnkey projects for new installations, and we also offer comprehensive services for emergency repairs and ongoing maintenance. Whichever biomass fuel works for a particular project, we’ll come up with a storage system that suits. And we can advise on any current incentive schemes to offset the capital costs of biomass boiler installation.
Our work is highly rated and respected by clients for speed and quality of delivery.
We have more than 140 years of innovation and excellence in combustion engineering.
We are registered with every industry body and certified to their rigorous standards.
Our engineers are highly competent and adhere to the highest Health & Safety standards.
IN A NUTSHELL...
Why might a biomass boiler be good for your business?
Biomass has some clear advantages over other fuel types. Here we’ve outlined a few of them
Biomass is renewable
Renewable energy sources are those that can be replenished after use. As wood and plant life can be regrown, it is a truly renewable source and therefore has the potential to far outlast traditional fossil fuels. Even so, unlike other renewable energy sources such as solar or hydro power, there’s always the need to replenish stocks by re-planting and avoiding such issues as deforestation or monoculture.
Biomass is carbon neutral
The amount of carbon released into the atmosphere is a major contributor to climate change. Biomass fuel is a natural part of the carbon cycle, unlike oil and other fossil fuels. The only carbon that is released into the atmosphere from biomass fuels is what was absorbed by the plants during their lifecycles. As these plants are replenished, new ones then absorb the same amount of carbon again, creating carbon neutrality.
Biomass frees up limited supplies of fossil fuels for other purposes
The more we use biomass energy, the less we need to depend on fossil fuels that are major contributors to climate change and other environmental issues. The abundance of biomass materials available also far outweighs that of fossil fuels, making it a more readily available fuel source. Better yet, if non-renewable materials, such as oil, aren’t being used for fuel, the limited supplies that we have can be used elsewhere.
Biomass is readily available
Biomass fuels are abundant. Much like with the sun and water, they can be found practically anywhere on the planet. This abundance means that we will not run into the issues that we currently have with fossil fuels when it comes to availability. However, it is also crucial that this abundance is maintained. While biomass fuels will always be available because they are part of the natural lifecycle of the planet, this should not lead to irresponsibility in their use.
Biomass is produced domestically
Biomass fuel can also take the control of energy production out of the hands of larger companies. This means that people no longer need to be beholden to power companies and their charges. The nature of biomass means that practically anybody could produce and use it on a domestic level. While this does take some work, even something as simple as burning wood instead of using a central heating system can save money and have a more beneficial effect on the environment.
CASE STUDY: GILLES
At Hodgkinson Bennis, we work with the best boiler designers and manufactures across the world. For most biomass deployments we specify Gilles Biomass Heating systems.
Gilles provides a range of Biomass boilers suitable for every situation. Their high-performance pellet and wood-chip fuelled boilers are made to the highest industry standards. Many models within their range include fully automatic cleaning of the heat exchanger and ash removal without interrupting the normal system operation.
Gilles, an Austrian manufacturer, is considered a leading innovator in the areas of commercial and industrial biomass boilers. Their systems are characterised by their robustness and fuel-efficiency.
The team at Gilles are experienced engineers and project developers. Together, they guarantee that their biomass boilers are developed to the latest technical standards and perfectly aligned with our customers' needs.
